In some cases a DLI may be exempt such as for primary and secondary school applicants, family members of a foreign national and some Quebec institutions.

Under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), applicants are usually required to complete their LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment) assessment. In the International Mobility Program (IMP), LMIA is exempt.
